Spraying drone taking off from a rice field

₹ per acre

Drone spraying cost per acre in India

Farmers on Sky Spray pay ₹300 to ₹600 per acre on average for a standard spray run, chemical excluded; the exact figure varies with the rates operators near you set. You name the price when you post your field. Here is what moves it, indicative rates by crop, and how it compares with manual spraying.

Indicative rates by crop type

These are the averages we see most often; operators set their own rates, so your district may sit above or below them. The price you name in the app, times your acreage, is the only amount that applies, and you see it before you post.

Crop typeWhy₹ per acre
Paddy, wheat, soybean, pulses, groundnut, milletsLow, uniform canopy; fastest to cover₹300–450
Cotton, maize, chilli, vegetables, onion, potatoTaller or denser canopy; more careful flight lines₹375–525
Sugarcane, banana, orchards, teaTall crops needing more spray volume per acre₹450–600

Chemical excluded unless agreed with the operator. Minimum booking is usually 2 acres.

What changes the per-acre price

Acreage and how contiguous it is

One 10-acre block is cheaper per acre than five scattered 2-acre plots, because refills and repositioning eat into flying time. A lower offer gets accepted faster when neighbours book together.

Crop height and canopy

Tall sugarcane, banana and orchards need a higher spray volume per acre and slower passes than paddy or wheat, so it takes a higher per-acre price to get accepted.

Distance from the operator

An operator weighs the travel before accepting. Posting a few days ahead lets them combine your job with others nearby, so a lower price is more likely to be taken.

Who supplies the chemical

The per-acre price excludes the chemical: you buy it, the operator brings the drone, water, batteries and pilot. Agree anything else with the operator before the visit.

Season and demand

In the peak weeks of kharif and rabi, and after a pest or disease alert, early-morning slots are scarce and it takes a higher offer to get accepted quickly. Off-peak bookings are cheaper.

Number of rounds

Crops like cotton and chilli need several sprays a season. Operators who know your field are more likely to accept a lower rate for the next round.

How a booking works

Four steps from your phone to a sprayed field. You set the price, and nothing starts until you share the start code.

01

Post your field and name your price

Drop a pin on your field, enter the acreage and crop, pick a date and set the price per acre you want to pay. The app shows the going rate nearby.

02

A nearby operator accepts

Your request goes to verified operators around you for 5 minutes. The first to accept your price gets the job. No taker? Raise your offer and post again.

03

Pay cash at the field, or UPI in the app

Pay the operator in cash when they arrive, or pay online after they accept. Then share your 4-digit start code; that is what starts the spray.

04

Proof on your phone

The operator uploads GPS-located photos of the sprayed area from your field. You see them in the app and rate the job.

Drone spraying charges: common questions

What is the drone spraying cost per acre in India?

On Sky Spray you name the price, and the app shows the rates operators near you charge. Standard insecticide, fungicide or nano urea runs settle between ₹300 and ₹600 per acre on average, chemical excluded, varying with the rates operators near you set. Tall crops and orchards can be above that; large contiguous blocks are often below it.

Is the chemical included in the per-acre price?

No. You buy the product and the operator applies it at the label dose. Agree anything beyond that with the operator before the visit.

Is drone spraying cheaper than manual spraying?

Per acre the operator fee is similar to or slightly above a hired spray crew, but it uses a fraction of the water, needs no labour from you, avoids trampling and exposure, and covers the field in hours instead of days. For tall crops it is often the only option.

How is the amount worked out?

Your price per acre times the acreage you entered, shown in full before you post. After the run the operator uploads GPS-located photos of the area covered, taken at your field; if the work falls short of what was booked, the Refund & Cancellation Policy explains what happens.

Is there a minimum booking size?

Most operators accept bookings from 2 acres. Smaller plots are often batched with neighbouring farms on the same visit, so post your field anyway and let nearby operators decide.

Are the drone operators licensed?

Every operator on Sky Spray submits a DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate, drone registration details and identity proof, and is verified before they can accept a job.

When and how do I pay?

Cash or UPI, your choice. Pay the operator in cash when they reach your field, or pay online in the app once they accept. Either way, the job starts only when you share your 4-digit start code, so nobody starts spraying before you are ready and paid up.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes. Cancelling before an operator accepts, or before you have paid, costs nothing. Cancelling a paid online booking after acceptance keeps a 20% fee for the operator's reserved slot. Once the start code is shared the job is under way and cannot be cancelled in the app. See the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
